Newby’s Final Chance to get into Victory Lane for 2008/09 Season:

Going through a season without a victory isn’t something that sits well with former two time Australian Champion Wayne Newby, and heading into the annual Winternationals this June Long Weekend (June 4 – 7) at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway he is presented with one final chance to land himself in victory lane during the eighth and final round of the 2008/09 season Australian Top Alcohol Championship.

With nothing to lose and all to gain; Newby, who currently sits fourth in the overall Australian Championship point standings, wants nothing more than to come away from the Winternationals with the winner’s trophy in his grasp.

It has been quite a long time since Newby has gone through a season without registering a single victory and that is something that he would dearly like to stay that way when he steps back into his JBS Tools / Fabre Australia backed Dragster at the Winternationals.

“I can’t honestly remember the last time I went through a season without a win and hopefully at this weekend’s Winternationals I can get into victory lane,” Newby stated in a positive manner. “I have always had a good run at Willowbank Raceway and up until last season I had enjoyed two seasons where I was undefeated there in the Top Alcohol category.”

Without a doubt the Winternationals is arguably one of the biggest events of the drag racing season and Newby is very keen to finish what has been a tough season in the Australian Championship on a victorious note.

“The Winternationals is one of my favourite events of the season and it always attracts a very large and vocal crowd over the weekend,” said Newby. “Winning the Winternationals would not only be a major relief for my team and me as it would get the monkey off our back but it would also give us plenty of momentum to take with us into next season.”

Winning and Wayne Newby have always gone hand in hand and at this weekend’s Winternationals winning is his one and only focus. The prospect of going through a whole season without a victory is certainly one of Newby’s biggest motivations this weekend.
